Inline planetary and spiral bevel gearmotors with solid output shaft feature smooth, easily cleanable surfaces and are available in flange mounted, face mounted or foot mounted configurations. These units are ideal for use in scraper/agitator mixer drives where sanitary operation is paramount and can be retrofitted to existing cast iron drives with the help of our engineers.
Choosing the Right Gearmotor
As with motors, the speed and torque required for any application varies greatly from one system to another. This is because the drive train must overcome all the forces that occur when the load moves through the motion path, such as rolling friction, linear friction and gravitational force.
A properly sized motor must also provide sufficient dynamic power to accelerate the entire system, including the load, transmission components and the gearbox or speed reducer. This requires understanding the power requirements of a given application as well as how the efficiencies of the motor and gearbox affect overall system power.
Sizing a Solid Output Shaft Gearmotor
To ensure the proper size, it is necessary to determine the force that will be applied to the output shaft. This will be done by calculating the radial forces at a selected point on the geared motor with respect to the bearing lifetime and the strength of the output shaft. This can be calculated by referring to the appropriate geared motor selection table.
This value is then multiplied by the motor efficiency to get the motor system power. Then, this number is used to calculate the gearbox efficiency for that specific application.
Using the STP Design Search tool, a user can find the optimum gearmotor for any application. This is the closest match to the application's performance specifications; this includes torque, speed, and motor and gearbox efficiency.
R type gear reducer is an ideal choice for high output speeds or low weight. Always with a high level of efficiency, our helical gear units offer an optimum ratio between output torque and installation space. This means: a helical gear unit almost always fits your application.
